Adam Szymczyk named Curator for Documenta 14!

While the conversations raised within Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev’s documenta 13 are still in the air (especially with Jerome Bel bringing Theater Hora to this year’s Performa), this morning in Kassel it was announced that Adam Szymcyzk will take on documenta 14.

Yes, this news is sure to cause all sorts of “suggested spellings” on Google in the next few hours. Szymczyk helped start up Warsaw’s Foksal Gallery Foundation, where he served as curator from 1997 up through 2003, when he became director at Kunsthalle Basel (we can hear the “ahhh, that’s why he looks so familiar”‘s from here…) In his time there, the institution has hosted shows from R.H. Quaytman, Latifa Echakhch, Paul Sietsema, Cyprien Gaillard, Moyra Davey, Dahn Vo, Goshka Macuga, Bas Jan Ader – and the list goes on…

This documenta is set for June 10 – September 17, 2017. Is it too early to be excited?
