Just as this summer heat has us longing for cooler climes, this week we got a news bump reminding us to retreat to Norway for the last days of August to luxuriate in the cool breezes and earnest discourse of this year’s Bergen Assembly.
While the curatorial statement had us intrigued, the newly-released artist roster – well, in keeping with the conceit, here they are called “researchers” – has some nice surprises: not just Chto Delat?, Boris Groys, Dmitri Gutov, IRWIN, and Olga Chernysheva, and Dmitri Venkov (all standard fare for curators Katya Degot and David Riff), but also some thought-provoking inclusions like Dora García, Eduardo Molinari, Jumana Manna and Sille Sorhille.
We’re assuming the presence of the latter two names means we’ll get another look at the young artists’ collaborative project The Goodness Regime, which casts Norwegian history as a children’s play. Baibakov Art Projects’ Kate Sutton got a first taste of the work while it was still not completed, before it could make its debut in this year’s Sharjah Biennale. We’re delighted to have a longer look:
