Following up on the success of last’s year’s Baku Public Arts Festival, the Yarat! Contemporary Art Space will open the second installment – demurely titled PARTICIPATE – on March 14.
The program mixes Azerbaijani and international artists in a series of 10 public commissions. The Bay Area’s public space defenders Rebar will bring a man-powered mobile park; Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman will delight and confuse (and apparently question how we conceive of public space) with a 35+foot inflatable Rubber Duckie; Farkhad Haqverdiyev will show some love to Baku’s backyards, and, perhaps our favorite gesture, Orkhan Mammad will try to entice the public towards the city’s underused pedestrian underpasses, through the use of VIP red carpets and queues.
The festival will run through September. More information can be found on the website.
