Reports from Chelsea just now coming in

La Guardia Airport, underwater, as reported to JetBlue Airways

As the East Coast recovers from last night’s devastation, our heart goes out to those affected by the storm, many of whom are now facing the prospect of several days without power.

Flood damage from the Zach Feuer Gallery

In particular, we are very distressed to hear of the struggles facing the artists whose homes and studios were in Greenpoint and Red Hook (who saw massive flooding already Monday morning) and the galleries in Chelsea, who were hit by at least 3 feet of water, which wreaked havoc in galleries such as Zach Feuer, Gagosian and Andrea Rosen, who was set to inaugurate its new space with the two-part exhibition Cellblock, featuring artists Sterling Ruby and Kelley Walker alongside Robert Motherwell and Peter Halley. Originally scheduled for Friday, it is now unclear if the exhibition will open.

The Observer’s Gallerist page has been keeping tabs on the devastation. We recommend following their link for future updates.

Hyperallergic is also running updates, with more pictures of the actual flooding.
