A day before Moscow’s decisive (or maybe not just decided) elections, the Moscow Biennale of Young Art has released the list of participating artists for the main project, Under a Tinsel Sun, which was put together by Berlin-based curator Kathrin Becker.
The Biennale, which runs from July-August 2012, claims to have received over 2000 applications this year. While the focus is specifically on “Young Art” (defined as work by artists under 35), several of the participants have quite distinguished exhibition histories; among them, AIDS 3D, Jorinde Voight, Ciprian Mureşan, Conrad Ventur and Ryan McNamara. Two of the participants – Marinella Senatore and Anna Titova – were even included in the main project of 2011′s Venice Biennale, suggesting that “young” may not be what it used to be.
