Baibakov Art Projects congratulates Nikita Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Sergei Radkovich and Nikita Shalennyi, young Ukrainian artists recognized by the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011.
In a ceremony that took place yesterday in Kiev, Nikita Kadan was named the winner of UAH 100,000 and a one month residency with an as-yet-unnamed international artist (proposed mentors for the center’s international competition, the Future Generation Art Prize, included Jeff Koons and Takashi Murakami.)
Curators Hans-Ulrich Obrist and Ekaterina Degot lauded Kadan’s piece, “Pedestal. The Practice of Exclusion” as a “non-nostalgic, anti-monument [that] reflects on the nature of history and memory, while pointing to the future.”
Special Prizes were also given to Zhanna Kadyrova and Sergei Radkovich and the People’s Choice Award went to Nikita Shalennyi for his work “Loneliness,” which involves a blow-up doll and a clown.
You can see profiles of all of the artists and their works here.
